Asian Legend sits quietly along E William St in Ann Arbor, serving up Taiwanese and broader Pan-Asian dishes that feel like a warm invitation to those craving comforting, home-style flavors. This family-run Chinese restaurant strikes a balance between efficient service and authentic, hearty meals that locals keep returning for.

The space is straightforward and unpretentious—more about the food than fancy decor. It’s a practical spot for lunch or dinner, whether you’re dining in or grabbing delivery. The staff are known for being direct and quick, which can initially feel brisk, but regulars appreciate how attentive they are to making sure customers end up with the right dishes, especially if an order mix-up happens.

The menu leans heavily on Taiwanese favorites and classic Chinese dishes with a few spicy Sichuan options for those who like heat. Popular choices like Kung Pao Chicken, Szechuan Chicken, and Eggplant in Garlic Sauce deliver well-executed flavors that aren’t overly complicated but have enough punch and nuance to satisfy those familiar with authentic Taiwanese cuisine. Dim sum offerings and noodle dishes such as Chicken Lo Mein or Szechuan Lo Mein add variety and work well for more casual meals.

Asian Legend is especially well-suited for people who want a taste of genuine Taiwanese cooking without leaving Ann Arbor. It’s the kind of place where you might see local students or professionals stopping by regularly, often ordering some variation of their favorite dish. Given the busy nature, coming during slightly off-peak hours can allow for a more relaxed pace—though the service is notably efficient even when the restaurant is bustling.

Drinks like bubble tea and fresh fruit juices complement the food nicely, making it a practical stop for a quick snack, light lunch, or fuller dinner. Those who appreciate straightforward, tasty Pan-Asian meals with a home-cooked feel will find Asian Legend worth visiting again and again.

Super yummy Taiwanese style food at Asian Legend! Staff are great knowing our favorite dishes !! When we made mistakes ordering wrong dishes the owners gave us the right dish ;-). Consider the staff are so busy they are very quick and speak direct which sometimes people don’t understand would took it as impolite ! But they do care if we are happy with our time there!!

I absolutely love Asian Legend. If you’re not familiar with Taiwanese food—it is probably the most comforting Asian style food to eat, with sweet and savory flavors that expand your pallet without being overpowering. Asian Legend is an unassuming family owned establishment that prides itself on delicious food, fast service and quality. Don’t mistake their directness for rudeness; the owners are lovely people and want to service you as quickly as possible. As a beverage, you are given hot tea by default. If you want water, all you have to do is ask for it. The best way to eat is family style—ordering two or so dishes per person. For someone just getting started, I’d recommend the following: • Minced Pork Over Rice (Lu Rou Fan) • Seaweed dried tofu (bean curd) • Taiwanese Rice Noodles w/ Minced Pork • Taiwanese Cabbages with Garlic • Onion pancake (Fried Scallion Pancake) • Fried tofu with basil (also known as three cup tofu) • Pepper Salt Chicken [so good, a must try]

I don’t live in Ann Arbor anymore but I still make it a point to stop by every time I visit. Their Taiwanese food is absolutely unmatched, if you want the real deal, this is the spot. Their Lou Ro Fan is one of my favorites in the whole world (and I live in NYC and visit Taiwan regularly), their scallion pancakes are crispy and delicious, and their basil tofu is to die for. If you want a truly authentic, Taiwanese experience that leave you feeling warm and full, this is the place to go!

Had the best experience dining in and out with them! The food was very yummy, authentic, and reminded me of home. The servers were incredibly friendly and helpful. 10/10 recommend! I’ll definitely be back!
